This is regarding my school and the next ball. It’s off topic and does not do with cars. Please do not ban me.
The administration is hyped up that everyone takes drugs and drinks before heavily. They want everyone to go on charter buses for senior ball. No one can drive or take any form of other transportation to senior ball. The committee is writing up reasons to bring to admistration. What reasons can Oppo give?

Is the school providing the transportation? If not, it discriminates against students who can’t afford (read: parents can’t afford) charter buses.

Can you say that parents have already scheduled a non-refundable form of transportation?

oppo is off topic, you can’t get banned for off topic discussions. Just shit stirring. If you show them a business case like costs versus risks it might help. Find out how many actual issues they have had (not just hearsay) versus the extra cost they will incur versus what they could buy with that money instead.

This actually has a lot more to do with cars than a lot of Oppo in the past. Rest easy, my son - Oppo is the offtopic forum for people who like cars, not the offtopic cars and only cars forum. If it weren’t we wouldn’t have longterm staples like Shamoononon’s Lunch, Snap’s Weird Sports And Dog Things, and Nibby Horror.

But Oppo is an off-topic blog.

As I recall, most of the drinking etc happened at the after parties. A bus wouldn’t have changed anything. The prom itself was pretty much just a mating dace.

That was my point. Couched in more blather.

I would say that encourages reckless behavior by making transportation mandatory and out of your control.
“Oh, I don’t have to drive myself? FUCK YEAH!”
By reacting to a possibility of something happening (some call it proactive, I’ll call this annoying) you can actually encourage what you want to prevent. In this case they are justifying bad decisions.

Is the school chartering the bus? As a parent, I’m okay with this. It’s also the school’s way of avoiding a potential lawsuit.

I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I think this is a great plan, from the perspective of parent, secondary educator, school administrator, middle-ager and kid who came home with beer-induced hick-ups, having driven a car, on prom night. In short: survivor.
Take the bus with your friends and have a great time.
Nothing but love.

It’s a predestination paradox .

I would say that at some point you have to grow the fuck up and be an adult. And those that choose not to act like adults on prom night, get stupid, wreck their car and die? Natural selection.
Seriously people, we need to start thinning out the herd.
Ok, ok, that’s a bit of a stretch. But seriously, you all are on the precipice of adulthood and should be treated as such. Also removing the potential for driving could exacerbate other behaviors. Alcohol poisoning anyone? And you have students/parents who may have already purchased or made non-refundable arrangements for transportation. Is the school footing the bill for this? If you have to pay for this, it could be expensive, so how does that affect students from low income families?

I don’t think a parent would be a control freak enough to order a party bus 11 months prior.

And curfew here is 11:30, no way we can get back by the time I can legally drive back. If you are under 18, you cannot drive between 11-5 unless you started driving 10:59 and prior

It's going to cost around ~7600 ish. And senior prom prices are already 130 dollars. There is 25% off for free and reduced lunch people. And senior prom is based on a contract that mandates the amount of money that comes in (ie 30k or no go)

I'm not sure who foots the bill, but low income student have a deep (25 or 50 percent discount). It's for next year, so no transportation plans. Plus if you tell a teenager to not drink, they are going to find a way

Yeah, I had the same issue with a school sponsored graduation party. It ended at like 3am or something so we had to kill 2 hours before I could drive people home. Ended up going to a playground haha.
